The Terminal app
What the desktop app adds over the till in a browser, how to install it on the counter computer, and how it keeps itself up to date.
Terminal is the till as an app on the computer at your counter. It is the same till, the same sign in and the same shop. What it adds is the hardware: it prints receipts straight to your printer and opens the cash drawer.
Most shops do not need it. If you sell from a phone, or from a computer with no receipt printer, the till in a web browser does everything. Install this when there is a printer or a drawer on the counter.
Step by step
1. Decide whether you need it
You need it if a receipt printer or a cash drawer is wired to the counter computer. You do not need it for anything else. Stock, sales, customers, reports and deliveries all work the same in a browser, on any device, and they stay in step because it is the same shop underneath.
2. Download it on the counter computer
Open outlyz.com/download on the computer that has the printer. The page works out whether you are on Windows or a Mac and puts that download first. Download it there, not on a phone, because the file has to end up on the machine the printer is attached to.
3. Install it
Open the file you downloaded and follow the installer. Windows may ask you to confirm before it runs, which is normal for a program that is not from its store. Once it finishes, Terminal is in your programs list like anything else.
4. Sign in the way you already do
Open Terminal and sign in with the same email and password you use for the till. Nothing to set up again. Your shop, your branch and your staff are already there.
5. Choose your printer
Click your name at the top right, choose "Printer", and set it up once. The full walk through is on the Printing receipts page. Print a test page before your first customer.
Worth knowing
Updates come to you
Terminal checks for a new version on its own and offers it when it finds one. It never interrupts a sale to do it: the offer only appears when the basket is empty and no window is open. You can say later as many times as you like.
Installing does not download anything again
Checking for a new version costs almost nothing. Only saying yes downloads, and only then does the app restart. That matters on a connection a shop pays for by the megabyte.
Which version you are on
The number is on the sign in screen, under "Powered by Outlyz". Read it out if you ever ring about a problem.
Questions
Do I have to install this to use Outlyz?
No. The till works in a web browser on any phone or computer. The app is for a counter with a receipt printer or a cash drawer.
Will my sales be different in the app?
No. It is the same till and the same shop. A sale rung up in the app and one rung up in a browser land in the same place.
Windows warned me about the file. Is that normal?
Yes. Windows warns about any program it has not seen before. Continue past the warning and install as usual.
It says a new version is ready in the middle of a busy day.
Choose later. It only asks when the basket is empty, and it will ask again. Nothing changes until you say yes.
