At the till
Selling with no internet
What the till does when the connection drops, how to know sales are waiting, and what to check before closing the shop.
The till keeps working with no internet. Sales are written on the device and sent up when the connection comes back. Nobody has to stop selling and nobody has to write on paper.
What matters is knowing it is happening, and not shutting the device down while sales are still waiting to go.
Step by step
1. Notice the banner
A strip appears across the top. With no connection at all it reads "No internet. You can keep selling." When the phone or computer has a connection but cannot reach us, it reads "Cannot reach Outlyz. You can keep selling." Both mean the same thing for you: carry on.
2. Keep selling
Ring sales up exactly as usual. Products, quantities, payment, receipt. Nothing about the steps changes. Each sale is written on the device as you go.
3. Watch the count
Once sales are waiting the banner counts them, like "No internet. 3 sales saved on this device." That number is your reassurance that nothing has been dropped, and your warning not to close the till yet.
4. Let them go up
When the connection returns the banner changes to "Sending 3 sales…" and then flashes "Back online". Nothing to press. If it says "3 sales saved on this device, still waiting to send.", the connection is back but the sales have not gone yet; leave the till open a moment longer.
5. Check before you close
At the end of the day, look at the top of the till. No banner means everything is up. A count means sales are still on that device only, and closing the browser or switching the machine off leaves them there until it is opened again on the same device.
Worth knowing
It is the device that holds them, not the account
Sales wait on the machine they were rung up on. Signing in somewhere else does not bring them along. Open the same till again and they go up.
A sale is never sent twice
Each one is sent once, however many times the connection comes and goes. Reconnecting on a busy morning does not duplicate the morning's takings.
One bad sale does not hold up the rest
If one sale is refused when it reaches us, the others still go. The one that failed is kept so it can be looked at rather than quietly dropped.
Questions
Can I take payment with no internet?
Yes. Cash, card and mobile money are all recorded the same way. Only the sending waits.
Will the receipt print with no internet?
Yes. Printing happens on the counter, not over the internet.
I closed the till with sales waiting. Are they gone?
No. They are on that device. Open the till on the same device and sign in, and they go up on their own.
Stock numbers look wrong while offline.
They are the numbers from the last time the device heard from us. They correct themselves once the waiting sales have gone up.
